Your Linkr profile & portfolio

As a Social LMS, Linkr offers its users to build a profile & portfolio they own and curate. As with a social network’s profile, each Linkr user’s profile & portfolio is updated with the users activity within the platform.

Your profile & portfolio is the right place to showcase your personality and tell others about your interests and who you are. It’s a useful tool to present yourself,  to network, to meet interesting people or potential collaborators, or even to showcase work for school, internship or job applications.

Beyond basic information, like your name, location or education, Linkr users can add Publications to their profile & portfolio. These are multimedia artifacts of learning experiences that allow the LMS to be content-driven, active and collaborative.

The profile & portfolio becomes a living illustration of a person’s journey.

In this article, you will learn about:

What’s in a Linkr profile & portfolio

The first section of a Linkr profile & portfolio is the header, in which you will be able to write your name (or a pseudonym if you’re not comfortable with your name being on Linkr), pick an avatar and a cover image, and share your current role (eg, Humanities Educator, Instructional Designer, Head of a Program or Undergraduate Student in Economics).

Keep in mind that your profile’s information directly relates to what appears on your user card:

The left of the Linkr profile & portfolio is an “About” section where you can share information to let other users know your background, who you are and what you’re interested in. You are not just your role, so you can share your hobbies, passions and side hustles here.

On the central part of the page, a Linkr profile & portfolio has several tabs:

  • Portfolio: to showcase publications the user has created
  • Classes: to showcase Classes of which the user has been manager or member
  • Groups: to showcase Groups of which the user has been manager or member
  • Badges: to showcase the badges you've been awarded

How to see and edit your profile & portfolio

To access your profile & portfolio, simply click on the Profile icon in the side navigation that is always available, wherever you are on Linkr!

Once you’re there, to edit your profile & portfolio, simply click on the three dot menu, next to your name:

What about privacy?

Your privacy is extremely important to us, so we created specific tools to allow you to tailor the level of privacy (or exposure) you'd like for your profile & portfolio.

In Linkr, there are three levels of privacy you can choose from:

Private

Nobody can see your Linkr profile except administrators and managers of the hubs, classes and groups you're a member of.

This setting will give you the most privacy. Nobody except your Hub, Class or Group manager will be able to see your profile & portfolio. This means that nobody will be able to click on your user card to get to your profile, and even if they got there, it would be hidden, like this:

Limited visibility

Members of the hubs, classes and groups you're a member of can also see your Linkr profile, but your profile will not be visible outside of Linkr.

This setting is the default privacy setting in Linkr. It gives a reasonable amount of exposure, since only the members that are part of the same spaces than you can access your profile. This means that nobody that isn't a member of the same Hub, Group or Class will be able to access your profile.

Full visibility

Anyone on the Web can see your Linkr profile, which can also be indexed by search engines.

This setting will give the most exposure to your profile, by making it completely public in and out of Linkr. It's the best setting if you want to use your profile land portfolio to showcase your work. It's also the only one that will give you access to the "Copy link" feature, that will allow you to share your public profile and portfolio to anyone you see fit:

Sharing that link will lead any recipient to a version of your profile and portfolio that is accessible outside of Linkr:

How to manage your privacy and share your profile & portfolio

To access your profile & portfolio privacy setting, go to your profile and click on the three dot menu next to your name, then select Manage privacy (which will show you which setting your profile & portfolio is currently set at):

Clicking on this option will open a window for you to select the privacy setting you like the most:

If you changed your privacy setting, click on confirm and your choice will be instantly effective.

What happens to your profile & portfolio if you are no longer part of an institution/ organization, class or group?

If you change schools, switch organizations, complete a class, or leave a group, your profile & portfolio is updated accordingly. In Linkr, each profile & portfolio's content is owned by the individual user so leaving a group, class or Hub does not make your profile disappear. Rather, as your lived experience changes, your profile & portfolio remains. You can update or edit your profile & portfolio, and it will be continuously updated across all the great learning experiences you have on Linkr.

And if at some point you would like your profile & portfolio to be scrubbed from the Internet, simply ask for it to be deleted and our team will happily comply! Your privacy is extremely important to Linkr, so be sure we’ll do whatever we can to protect it at all costs.
