Publications

As a Social LMS, Linkr provides online publishing tools for users to share content and stories. These publications are associated with the author’s profile and portfolio and can be shared with targeted audiences, such as a class or group on Linkr. Users can even use social tools to share their publications across social media.

In this article, you will learn how to:

Create a Publication

In Linkr, your Publications are always accessible from the the sidebar menu:

To create a new Publication, simply click on the + New Publication button on the top right of the Publication page:

The publication form will allow you to create your Publication:

A publication is required to have a Title and at least some content. We recommend including a Cover picture. This greatly increases how many people will click and read your publication.

To further increase indexability and help organize and distribute your content you should consider adding a few Subjects to your publication.

The right panel of the Publication form allows you to select the Audiences for your publication:

It will be possible for you to select Classes or Groups you would like to share this publication with. Sharing with a Class gives access to specific Privacy settings which will help you even further specify your target audience:

Public:

Linkr users and anyone with the direct link to this Publication will be able to read your work. But only linkr users will be able to comment.

Selected classes only:

Only the members of the class(es) you selected will be able to see this content.

Private:

The article will only be visible to you and the Manager(s) of the classes you selected.

While you write your Publication, Linkr continuously autosaves your work, and you will be able to see when the last save happened on the right of the form:

Publications can either be Drafts or Published. As long as you don’t choose to publish your content, the Publication will remain as a draft and won’t be seen by anyone. In your list of Publications, you can switch view from Published to Drafts at any time using the tabs at the top:

Edit, or delete a publication

From any list of Publications, you can view, edit or delete your publications by clicking on the three dots menu at the bottom of the card:

You can also edit your publication by clicking on the Edit Publication button at the top right of each publication page.

Note: if you have edited your publication but not published the changes yet, “Unpublished edits” will appear at the top right of the card:

How to insert an image into a publication

As we said above, we strongly encourage you to add a Cover picture to your Publication as it will greatly increase how many people will open it.

To insert images within your Publication, simply click on the image icon in the toolbar of the text editor:

This will prompt you to select an image on your device.

How to embed a Youtube video into a publication

To insert an online video into your Publication, simply click on the video icon in the toolbar of the text editor:

You will then be asked to insert the URL of the video and to confirm. To acces a sharing URL of a video in Youtube, click on the share button:

How to add a video into a publication without using YouTube

To add a video to your Publication without using Youtube, simply scroll down to the bottom of your publication creation form to use the specific uploader:

You will be able to either drag and drop your video of browse your device to select a file. The maximum file size for that upload is 1GB (or around 1000MB for those who like bigger numbers :P). Once it's done, click on Upload Video:

The uploading will start and will quickly be followed by a processing stage, the duration of which will depend on the size of your file. Please wait till the processing is finished to publish or leave the page, otherwise the upload will not be completed.

Once the processing is completed, the uploader should look like this, with a "Ready" tag in green:

Getting this message means that you can now publish your publication or leave the page. Once published, the video will appear at the bottom of the publication, like any other attachment. Clicking on the thumbnail of the video will open a video player:

Please note that you will only be able to attach one video per publication.

Comment and Reply to Publications

Commenting on Linkr Publications provides an interactive and flexible experience for both the commenter and recipient.

Here are a two tips to help make your comments experience a positive one for everyone involved:

  • Read the Publication before commenting: it’s sometimes tempting to react only after looking at a title, but the content of the Publication may be more nuanced than its title and bring elements that you may not have considered.
  • Be respectful when sharing your point of view: you can hold a different point of view from the author, but that’s not ground for being disrespectful or attacking them.

There are great benefits to leaving meaningful comments. They can trigger interesting conversations and provide a positive learning experience for everyone involved, from the author to all viewers that will later read this exchange.
